ACBSP Accepts ICCP
Certification
The Association
of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)
and the Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP)
have announced acceptance of ICCP professional certification toward
ACBSP professionally qualified faculty accreditation credentials
requirement.
ACBSP is one of
two national accrediting bodies for business schools and is the
accrediting body of choice for more than 500 medium-sized and small
four-year colleges, universities and community colleges.
ACBSP faculty accreditation
requires one of three levels of credential:
- Doctorally Qualified,
- Professionally Qualified
(both a Masters Degree and professional certification), or
- Minimally Qualified
(Masters Degree in the field).
Faculty members can now
meet the Professionally Qualified level through certification earned
by passing the Certified Computing Professional (CCP) exam. This
acceptance of ICCP certification offers more opportunity for faculty
members to earn the Professionally Qualified credential.
Founded in 1988, ACBSP
has developed standards for fostering excellence in business teaching
rather than a major emphasis on research. ACBSP was recognized in
1992 by the U.S. Department of Education, the recognition body for
accrediting organizations.
ICCP was created
in 1973 by eight professional computing societies to provide professional
certification in the computing/information systems field. ICCP certification
is earned through a combination of education, practical knowledge
and examination, which includes core and specialty areas in technical
and managerial functions. Such certifications by ICCP have increasingly
been accepted by other organizations as the ultimate qualification
for information systems professionals.
Dr. John Green, the director
at ACBSP, states that "This agreement recognizes the stringent standards
implicit in ICCP certifications and greatly contributes to improved
quality and relevance of academic training in the fast-changing
field of computing and information systems."
ICCP's comments that
"acceptance of ICCP certification by an organization of the caliber
of ACBSP firmly establishes the value of the high standards demanded
by the ICCP comprehensive certification process."
ACBSP is based
in Overland Park, KS and the ICCP is based in Des Plaines, IL. For
