CCP Certification Eligibility Requirements


The CCP certification program is directed to senior level personnel in the information processing industry.

Any person may take any examination. However, they will not receive a certificate and be entitled to the use of the CCP designation until the additional requirements noted here are met.

Experience: A candidate must have at least 48 months of full-time (or part-time equivalent) direct experience in computer-based information systems. The 48 months need not be consecutive nor in a single position. Acceptable forms of experience include that in information technology (IT) management, information systems (IS), office information systems, systems analysis, systems design, programming, database administration, data management, and teaching computer-based information systems. Systems and programming experience gained while employed by computer equipment manufacturers, software manufacturers, service centers, management consulting firms, educational institutions, or other organizations may be applied toward this requirement. Clerical, data-entry, or experience gained in conjunction with formal classwork do not qualify.

Academic and Other Certification Alternatives: A candidate having less than 48 months work experience may substitute post-secondary academic work for up to 24 months of experience on the following basis, provided official transcripts of academic work are submitted to ICCP:

24 months - Bachelor's degree or graduate degree in information systems or computer science.

24 months - Any candidate who passes the Associate Computing Professional (ACP) Examination.

18 months - Bachelor's or graduate degree in related area, including accounting, business, engineering, mathematics, sciences, or statistics.

12 months - Bachelor's or graduate degree in non-related areas.

12 months - Associate degree or diploma (2-year program) in information systems or computer science.

Total credit for academic alternatives toward the experience requirement shall not exceed 24 months.

Professional Qualifications: Each candidate will be required to obtain the signature of a responsible person who can verify both the candidate's work experience and professional qualifications through personal knowledge or access to the necessary information. An ICCP certificate holder is to make this verification whenever possible. The candidate's immediate supervisor may be accepted as an alternative when there is no ICCP certificate holder in a position to provide the required verification.

Examination: To satisfy the examination requirements for the CCP designation, a candidate must pass at the professional level of 70% or higher during a given 36-month period

  • the Core examination and any two Specialty exams, or
  • the Core examination, any one Specialty exam, and any two Language exams, or
  • the Core examination and any one Specialty exam - and concurrently hold another approved computing professional certificate (ask ICCP office for current approved list).

ICCP Codes: Each candidate must subscribe to the Codes of Ethics, Conduct, and Good Practice as described in the CCP Examination Review Outlines.
